METALLICA

Metallica is one of the most interesting bands I have ever known!!

They have a very interesting story. Like other famous bands, they began as a little garage band with two people, and later became a legend. (How “unpredictable.”) Most of those garage bands became legends because of one style of music, not . Metallica. They have a little bit of a different story. And that is one of the reasons why they are kind of hated.

But let’s get back to the beginning. In 1981 in Los Angeles, a Danish drummer Lars Ulrich, placed an ad in a newspaper in which he invited other Metal musicians to play together. Guitarists James Hetfield and Hugh Tanner answered the ad and joined Lars. Hugh left after a while, but James stayed with Lars, and after five months they officially formed a band. Lars’s friend offered two names, “MetalMania” and “Metallica.”.The band chose the second name.

Another guy, Dave Moustaine, replied to the ad to be the lead guitarist of the band. Lars’s friend offered to be the bass guitarist. They recorded a few demos of their songs at the studio, played some stuff, went to bars. At one of the bars, James and Dave met a very talented bassist Cliff Burton. They chose to kick out Lars’s friend and replace him with Cliff. Interesting, isn’t it?

Even more interesting, in 1983, Metallica traveled to New York to record an album. Because of Dave’s addiction to drugs and alcohol and because of his violent behavior, the band members decided to remove him from the band. They replaced Dave with Kirk Hammett and recorded the album. Moustaine was very pissed off, but he didn’t give up. He created his own band, Megadeth, but that’s a different story.

In 1986, the band toured in Europe and unexpectedly for everyone, there was a tragedy. It was night after a show, the band got on their tour bus and drove to their next spot. Cliff fell asleep on the bus. At around sunrise, the bus driver lost control. The bus overturned several times. Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield survived, but Cliff Burton… well Burton was pinned under the bus and unfortunately died.

The Metallica members didn’t know what to do. They tried to find a new bassist, and they found Jason Newsted. They recorded a lot of albums together.

In my opinion, I think that the bassists are cursed in that band, and yes, Jason left the band in 2003. But then they found another one! And our star’s name is, Robert Trujillo and this band member still remains. This is the end for now.

Metallica is a great band with a great story. And even if it’s a Metal band, they have songs that are actually not Metal, like “Nothing Else Matters”, or “Welcome Home Sanitarium.” They play heavy and beautiful music. So, go and check them out. Pleasant listening!
