HAPOEL JERUSALEM
Updated: Jan 4, 2021
Hapoel Jerusalem is an Israeli football team from the city of Jerusalem. The team plays in the National League and was founded on June 12, 1926. Until the 1980s, it played at Katamon Stadium and the YMCA Stadium, and since the 1990s it has played at Teddy Stadium.
The team's greatest achievement is winning the state cup and third place in the first division in 1973.
During the 2008/2009 season, the fans decided to form a new team in the third division - "Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem".
The team was successful in the 2010/2011 season, and secured its promotion to the first division a few rounds before the end of the season.
Over the years, several unsuccessful attempts have been made to unite Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem with Hapoel Jerusalem.
At the end of the 2016/2017 season, Hapoel Jerusalem was relegated to the First Division, making Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem the senior Hapoel team in Jerusalem.
In the 2019/20 season, it was decided by the Football Association that Hapoel Jerusalem did not meet the conditions for the start of the season and its activity was suspended. In February 2020, the Jerusalem District Court decided to dissolve the association that managed Hapoel Jerusalem, thus making Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem the only "Hapoel."
In August 2020, Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem acquired the rights to the name "Hapoel Jerusalem.”
I chose to do the work about Hapoel because when I was young I used to go to all the games.
