CORONA AND ISRAEL

Updated: Dec 30, 2020

The Israeli Government’s handling of the Corona Virus Pandemic is improper and ineffective. The situation is made worse on account of the politicians’ lack of ability to agree on important matters letting their personal ideologies stand in the way.

The Corona Virus pandemic began in the middle of three elections that finally enabled the start of a new government. However, to make a new government several political parties had to be included all of whom disagree upon various things.

These disagreements derive from the fact that each side wants what’s best for their political stand. The religious parties desire synagogues to open. Other political parties desire protests to be legalized since that is a basic human right. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his supporters want decisions that aid his juridical situation.

The way the Government is handling the pandemic on schools proves just how improperly it is dealing with the pandemic overall. For example – notifying the schools about important things such as returning to school just mere days before. The lack of help schools are receiving is also noteworthy. In other words, schools have had to figure out how to adapt to these tough teaching conditions on their own with little to no help from the government.

All of this uncertainty creates holes in Israel’s ability to successfully manage the pandemic. The problems that arise from these holes lead to improper and ineffective handling of the pandemic, late decision making, the lack of enforcement of important rules such as wearing masks and not grouping with more than ten people at a time yet being allowed to roam freely between cities even though a lockdown is in place.
